BOLD 4:31 OVERVIEW

Acts 4:31 (NIV) After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

During the 31 days of March 2018, the Hampton Roads Church, as it continues its study of the Book of Acts, will encounter first century brothers and sisters at their finest in these next chapters (specifically, chapters 4 and 5). Their faith, gratitude, humility, and unity will compel them to proclaim the power of Jesus throughout the intimidating Temple courts and throughout the land. In the name of Jesus, they will bring salvation, joy, peace, and purpose to countless lives. They will also be rejected, threatened, flogged, and imprisoned for their zealous allegiance to Jesus. Undaunted, they will repeatedly band together, pray for boldness, and return to preach Jesus with Holy Spirit power.

BOLD 4:31 is our united effort to "not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says" (James 1:22, Acts 3:22). Pharisees are built by studying the Word without inviting the Word to influence one's soul and one's walk. Instead, we will strive to respond to the Spirit's call as these first century brothers and sisters did. Join us as we pursue discipleship of Jesus in community, reliant on prayer, by the Spirit's power, and without fleshly inhibition.

To prepare, we will consecrate ourselves via a three day fast from media and meals. During this time of consecration, contemplate Jesus: His power, His plan, and His promises (see the Boldly Know Bank for thought starters).

As we engage in BOLD 4:31, we will take on three challenges each week to BOLDLY BOW, BOLDLY KNOW, and BOLDLY GO. Let's do nothing without prayer and nothing without a reliance upon the power of the Holy Spirit (BOLDLY BOW). Before we BOLDLY GO, it's vital to BOLDLY KNOW. In other words, Identity drives Duty (not the other way around). We love, because He first loved us (1John 4:19). We work, because we are already His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). We endure dishonor, because we are already honored. We do right, because we are already the righteousness of Christ (2Corinthians 5:21). And we now strive boldly, because we are already a bold statement of the redemptive power of Jesus.

Will you be bold for Jesus?

Will you be Bold for 31?

Boldly Bow

Pray every day this March at 4:31PM (or AM) with boldness (Luke 11:1-13, Heb 4:16, Eph 3:12-21) and faith (Mark 9:28-29; 11:22-24, James 5:13-16) for boldness, strength, harvest, and healing.

Boldly Go

Capture in a journal all that God can do through you for 31 days - share it with a brother/sister, pray for it together during our church’s 3 day fast.

Find more sermons on this passage as well as sermon slides and notes on our ACTS page.
